Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas have revisited memories from Sweet Home Alabama as the romantic comedy marked 24 years since its release. Witherspoon, who played Melanie Carmichael in the 2002 film, shared a series of pictures from the movie and its sets on social media, reflecting on the cast and crew who made the project memorable. The anniversary prompted Lucas, who played Jake Perry, to share his own memories of the film and the role that became one of the most recognisable parts of his career.

Witherspoon marked the occasion by expressing disbelief that Sweet Home Alabama had been released 24 years ago. She remembered working with Patrick Dempsey, Josh Lucas, Candice Bergen, Melanie Lynskey and Jean Smart, along with director and writer Andy Tennant. She also recalled the connection the film had with singer Dolly Parton, whose song was included on the movie's soundtrack. Witherspoon said the association remained particularly meaningful to her.

She said people have approached her over the years to tell her that Sweet Home Alabama is their favourite film among her work. Lucas also shared a separate anniversary post in which he recalled his audition for the role of Jake Perry, revealing that he had initially believed he had performed badly enough to call his agent and apologise after the audition.

The actor said the film ultimately changed his life and recalled how strongly audiences continue to connect with it. He mentioned that someone had recently told him they had watched the movie more than 100 times. Lucas also sent his love to the cast and crew while reflecting on the role and the production experience. His comments, alongside Witherspoon's anniversary post, brought renewed attention to the film and its long-running popularity among fans.
