Olympic medal-winning boxer Mary Kom has criticised her 2014 biopic starring Priyanka Chopra, saying the film failed to capture the extent of her struggles and hard work. Following her eviction from Bigg Boss Season 20 on October 24, Mary said only 10% of her journey had been portrayed on screen and questioned the film’s authenticity. She also reflected on her reality show experience, maintaining that she had presented her real personality to viewers.
Speaking about the possibility of a sequel, Mary said she did not believe another film was necessary because her story had already been covered in the biopic and her autobiography, Unbreakable. However, she expressed disappointment with how her life had been represented in the film. “However, the biopic was not real. I felt some parts of the story were not real. Only 10 percent of my struggle and hard work was shown in it,” she said, adding that readers could better understand her experiences through her book.
Mary also spoke about her hopes for the future, saying she wished for a smooth and happy life ahead. Addressing curiosity about whether love could become part of her life, she said the decision would be hers to make in the future. Her comments came as she reflected on her sporting career and the personal sacrifices involved in competing at the highest level for two decades.

The boxer also defended her conduct on Bigg Boss, rejecting suggestions that she had presented a false version of herself on the show. “I was not fake. Those who know me very well will know,” she said. Mary explained that she felt the programme offered an opportunity to challenge public perceptions of her personality and show viewers the person behind her sporting achievements.
She said she wanted audiences to understand the years of effort and sacrifices that had shaped her career. “I wanted to show them the person who reached here after working so hard in life. I sacrificed my entire life,” she said, pointing to the demands of competing professionally for 20 years. Mary added that she had enjoyed the experience despite occasionally wondering how she would adjust to the conditions inside the reality show.
Released in 2014 and directed by Omung Kumar, Mary Kom featured Priyanka Chopra in the lead role and portrayed the boxer’s journey from her early years in Manipur to becoming a world champion. The film also depicted her efforts to balance her sporting ambitions with motherhood and family responsibilities. It received critical recognition and won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, although Mary’s latest remarks indicate that she believes significant parts of her personal journey were left out.
