Reality television personality Collin Gosselin has reignited public attention on his strained relationship with his mother, Kate Gosselin, ahead of the release of his upcoming memoir, In the Shadow of Eight. The 22-year-old, who rose to fame as a child on the reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8, shared a cryptic social media post that appeared to criticise his mother. The latest development comes months before the memoir is scheduled to be released on October 13.
Collin reposted a New York Post headline on his Instagram Stories that claimed Kate Gosselin was "spiraling" ahead of the publication of his memoir. In the repost, he blurred his mother's face and accompanied the post with Hans Zimmer's Day One soundtrack from the film Interstellar. He also shared a message from one of his followers reading, "What's done in darkness will always come to light," further fuelling speculation about continuing tensions within the family.
The social media posts followed reports that Kate Gosselin was unaware her estranged son had been planning to publish a memoir about his childhood. According to a Daily Mail report citing an unnamed source, Kate has not been in contact with Collin since he was placed in a behavioural treatment facility during his childhood. The source also claimed she has not spoken to him for several years and is concerned about what the memoir may reveal.

The same report alleged that Kate cannot prevent the book's publication even if she wishes to do so. It also suggested that Collin's siblings may be surprised by some of the revelations because many of them were very young during the events described and may only know the family's history through accounts shared with them over the years. These claims have not been independently verified, and Kate Gosselin has not publicly responded to the latest reports.
Collin's memoir, In the Shadow of Eight, is expected to chronicle his experience growing up in the public eye as part of one of reality television's most recognisable families. The book is also expected to explore his childhood, his years on the hit television series and his relationship with his mother. It is likely to revisit the circumstances surrounding his placement in a behavioural health facility in 2016, a decision Kate Gosselin previously said was made because of what she described at the time as unpredictable and violent behaviour.
The upcoming memoir has generated significant interest among fans of the long-running reality television series, given the family's well-documented public disputes over the years. While Collin's recent social media activity has intensified speculation about the contents of the book, many questions surrounding the family's relationship remain unanswered. With the memoir set for release in October, further details are expected to emerge as publication approaches.
