Actor Vijay has once again found himself in the public spotlight following reports that his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has filed for divorce. According to news agency PTI, the couple has approached the District Court in Chengalpattu. While similar rumours have surfaced in the past, the latest development has renewed attention on their long-standing relationship.

Amid the reports, excerpts from Vijay’s earlier interviews about his love story have resurfaced online. In a past interaction, the actor recalled meeting Sangeetha on the sets of his 1997 film Love Today. He said she had come with her parents to meet him as a fan. “They spoke very well. Just like me, she is reserved,” Vijay had shared, adding that he later invited her home, where his father approved of the match, eventually leading to their engagement after discussions between both families.

Speaking about their married life in earlier interviews, Vijay had often described Sangeetha as a strong pillar of support. He noted that she provided honest feedback on his films and stood by him during professional setbacks. “She is very understanding — that’s the main reason,” he had said, crediting her with playing a significant role in his personal and professional life.

Family members have also spoken warmly about Sangeetha. In a previous interview with Behindwoods TV, Vijay’s mother praised her dedication as a homemaker and mother, highlighting her hands-on involvement in raising their children and describing her as caring and attentive.

Sangeetha, the daughter of Sri Lankan Tamil industrialist Sornalingam based in London, reportedly travelled to Chennai years ago to meet Vijay before their relationship developed into marriage. The couple share two children — son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha. Neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has publicly commented on the reported divorce proceedings.
