Social media erupted with speculation after Jason Sanjay, son of actor-turned-politician Vijay, reportedly unfollowed his father on Instagram, shortly after his mother, Sangeetha Sornalingam, filed for divorce. The move has fueled widespread discussion about possible family tensions amid the high-profile legal proceedings.
Jason, a 25-year-old film director, maintains an Instagram account where he follows 38 people, including prominent filmmakers such as Anurag Kashyap and Farhan Akhtar. Observers noticed that his father’s account was missing from the list, prompting speculation that the unfollow signaled support for his mother or reflected estrangement. Some fans, however, suggested Jason may never have followed his father’s account, noting that Vijay himself follows no one on Instagram.
The controversy follows reports that Sangeetha filed a divorce petition at the Chengalpattu Family Court, citing allegations of Vijay’s extramarital relationship with an actress. According to PTI, the court has issued a notice directing Vijay to appear in person on April 20. Sangeetha claimed that she discovered the alleged affair in April 2021, describing the situation as causing “deep emotional pain and mental suffering, amounting to betrayal and violation of marital trust.”

The petition further alleges that despite initial assurances from Vijay that the relationship would end, it continued, resulting in what Sangeetha described as mental cruelty, emotional neglect, public humiliation through social media, and constructive desertion. These claims have not been publicly confirmed or denied by either party.
Vijay and Sangeetha married in August 1999 and have two children: Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. Jason has reportedly been involved in two films, including Pull the Trigger and his father’s 2009 action thriller Vettaikaran, while Divya appeared in Vijay’s 2016 film Theri.
As of now, the family has maintained public silence regarding the divorce and social media developments. Fans and followers continue to monitor the situation closely, with social media speculation intensifying as the court date approaches.
