The makers of 'Assi' dropped the motion poster on Friday, officially confirming February 20 as the theatrical release date for the much-awaited investigative thriller starring Taapsee Pannu. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, this marks the third collaboration between the duo after the critically acclaimed Mulk and Thappad. The motion poster sets an intense tone, opening with chilling visuals of a young woman fleeing from a group of predatory men, before introducing Taapsee as a horrified witness to the grim reality unfolding around her.
From the visuals and early indications, Assi appears to be another hard-hitting, socially relevant drama in Sinha’s signature style—following the likes of Article 15 and Thappad. Taapsee is seen portraying a determined and righteous lawyer, a role reminiscent of her powerful performance in Mulk. The film promises a blend of intense courtroom sequences and investigative depth, tackling pressing societal issues with unflinching honesty.
The ensemble cast includes Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles, with veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, and Seema Bhargava Pahwa appearing in special cameos. The screenplay is co-written by Anubhav Sinha and Gaurav Solanki, the writer behind Article 15 and Taandav. Adding to the intrigue, the film’s trailer is currently playing in theatres alongside Border 2.

Assi is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Anubhav Sinha under Benaras Mediaworks Production. The film will face a box-office clash with the romantic drama Do Deewane Seher Mein, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur.
This release marks Taapsee Pannu’s return to the big screen after Khel Khel Mein (2024) opposite Akshay Kumar. For director Anubhav Sinha, it’s his first feature since Bheed released nearly three years ago. Fans of socially conscious cinema are eagerly awaiting what promises to be a powerful and thought-provoking addition to Indian Cinema.
