Renowned actor-director Prakash Raj has been appointed chairman of the jury for the 2024 Kerala State Film Awards, as announced in a recent government order. Raj, celebrated for his versatile performances and contributions to Indian cinema, will helm a distinguished panel tasked with evaluating 128 films submitted for the prestigious awards. The jury’s screening process is set to commence on Monday, marking a significant moment for Kerala’s vibrant film industry, known for its artistic and socially relevant productions.
Joining Raj on the panel are director-screenwriter Ranjan Pramod, filmmaker-cinematographer Jibu Jacob, dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi, playback singer Gayathri Ashokan, sound designer Nithin Lukose, and writer Santhosh Echikkanam. Two preliminary subcommittees, led by Pramod and Jacob, have already shortlisted the films for final consideration. Additionally, Madhu Eravankara will chair the jury for awards recognising writings on cinema, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of contributions to the medium.

The awards, a cornerstone of Kerala’s cultural landscape, celebrate excellence in filmmaking and related fields, drawing entries from across the state’s prolific industry. Last year, films like Aattam and Kaathal – The Core garnered acclaim, setting a high bar for 2024 contenders.
