Martial artist and actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, 64, has been accused of engaging in sexual relations with five Romanian women who were allegedly trafficked. Multiple criminal charges have reportedly been filed against him in Romania.
According to CNN affiliate Antena 3, a criminal complaint was lodged with the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). The complaint alleges that Van Damme knowingly had sexual relations with women trafficked by a criminal group led by Romanian businessman and modelling agency owner Morel Bolea.
The allegations claim that the women were presented to the Street Fighter star as a "gift" during an event he organized in Cannes. However, the timeframe of the alleged incidents has not been specified.
Attorney Adrian Cuculis, representing one of the alleged victims, stated that the women were in a vulnerable state and may have been exploited. He explained that during the Cannes event, several Romanians under investigation for human trafficking and pimping allegedly offered Van Damme five Romanian photo models for sexual relations.
Cuculis noted that the case is part of a broader investigation into human trafficking and the trafficking of minors initiated by Romania’s prosecutor’s office in 2020.
Van Damme, known for his roles in action films such as ‘Kickboxer’, ‘Double Impact’, ‘Street Fighter’, and ‘Double Team’, has not publicly responded to the allegations.
As the investigation continues, Romanian authorities are examining the criminal group's activities, while Van Damme's representatives have yet to issue a statement.
