Christopher Nolan’s latest epic film The Odyssey has achieved the biggest worldwide opening of the filmmaker’s career, earning an estimated $257.8 million globally. The film surpassed the opening performances of Nolan’s previous blockbusters, including Oppenheimer and The Dark Knight Rises, establishing a new box office milestone for the Oscar-winning director.
According to figures reported by industry sources, The Odyssey collected approximately $125 million in North America, while international markets contributed around $132.8 million during its opening period. Strong advance bookings, packed IMAX screenings and positive audience reactions helped drive the film’s impressive debut across major markets.
The film has also performed strongly at the Indian box office, continuing Christopher Nolan’s popularity among Indian audiences. After registering a successful opening day, the movie witnessed further growth on its second day, earning an estimated Rs 22 crore net in India, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The collection marked a 26.4 per cent increase from its opening-day earnings of Rs 17.4 crore.

With its first two days in Indian theatres, The Odyssey has collected around Rs 39.4 crore net, while its gross collection has reached approximately Rs 47.03 crore. The film was released across 8,791 shows nationwide, reflecting the high level of audience interest surrounding Nolan’s latest cinematic project.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is based on the ancient Greek epic poem attributed to Homer. The film features Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Robert Pattinson as Antinous. The ensemble cast also includes Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo and Mia Goth.
The film follows King Odysseus on his dangerous journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War, as he faces mythical creatures, extraordinary challenges and personal struggles. It also explores his relationship with his wife Penelope. The Odyssey marks Nolan’s first directorial release after Oppenheimer, which won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film released in theatres on July 17 after receiving an ‘A’ certificate from India’s Central Board of Film Certification without cuts.
