Ben Affleck has finally broken his silence on his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, describing the episode as "sort of embarrassing" while emphasizing that their split was free of drama. In a recent GQ interview, the actor-director clarified that their breakup wasn’t caused by a single event but was more about navigating personal differences.
“There’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue. The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no: ‘This is what happened.’ It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do,” Affleck, 52, explained. “And the reason I don’t want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable.”
Despite their separation, Affleck spoke highly of Lopez, praising her ability to handle fame. “She’s handled celebrity more adeptly and more adroitly than I have,” he admitted. Their differing approaches to public life, however, did not play a major role in their breakup.
The couple finalized their divorce in January 2025, just five months after filing, marking the end of their second attempt at love. They had initially dated and gotten engaged in the early 2000s before splitting, only to rekindle their romance in 2021 and marry in 2022.
Affleck also addressed how media scrutiny affects his children, whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. “They see headlines at the grocery store. We’ve had to explain, ‘This isn’t always true,’” he revealed.
As for his relationship with Garner, Affleck expressed gratitude. “I’m really lucky that I have a really good co-parent and partner in Jennifer Garner. We work together well,” he said.
For now, Affleck remains focused on staying grounded, adding, “I don’t present in a very careful way. I’ll go pick up packages and I don’t really care that people are there to take my picture.”
