Amanda Seyfried’s latest film, The Testament of Ann Lee, has taken the Venice International Film Festival by storm, securing a historic 15-minute standing ovation during its premiere on Monday. Directed by Mona Fastvold, this gripping 18th-century drama features Seyfried as Ann Lee, the visionary founder of the Shaker religious sect, with Lewis Pullman shining as her brother, William Lee.
The film’s ovation surpassed the previous festival record set by Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which received a 13-minute applause. “I guess they really loved it!” a thrilled Seyfried shared as she exited the theatre, according to Variety.
Co-written by Fastvold and The Brutalist director Brady Corbet, the movie boasts a stellar cast, including Thomasin McKenzie, Stacy Martin, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Abbott, and Matthew Beard. The electric response has positioned The Testament of Ann Lee as a must-watch contender this awards season.
