A segment on '60 Minutes' that ignited a legal battle with former President Donald Trump has now been nominated for a prestigious Emmy Award. The nomination, announced Thursday, recognises the program's excellence in the category of "outstanding edited interview," despite the contentious nature of the subject matter.
Last fall, '60 Minutes' aired a segment focusing on Kamala Harris, then a Democratic candidate for vice president. The broadcast prompted a $20 billion lawsuit from Trump against CBS, alleging deceptive editing aimed at favourably portraying his political opponent. Despite these allegations, the segment has now garnered recognition from the News and Documentary Emmys, highlighting its editorial craftsmanship.
Competing alongside interviews featuring notable figures like Celine Dion, US Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Pope Francis, and WNBA star Brittney Griner, '60 Minutes' faces stiff competition in this year's awards. The winners will be announced in late June.

The fallout from the Harris interview continues to resonate within CBS News. While the news division asserts its journalistic integrity, CBS's parent company, Paramount Global, is reportedly in negotiations to settle Trump's lawsuit, a move that has sparked internal dissent among CBS News journalists. Former '60 Minutes' executive producer Bill Owens resigned recently, citing corporate constraints following the controversy surrounding the Harris interview.
Trump renewed his criticism of the interview on social media, targeting both CBS and The New York Times. Legal experts have dismissed Trump's lawsuit as lacking merit, anticipating a favourable outcome for CBS. In response to Trump's allegations, The New York Times affirmed its commitment to unbiased reporting, rebuffing any intimidation tactics from the administration.
