Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha recently shared a heartwarming and humorous memory from his early days in Bollywood involving his long-time friend and co-star Dharmendra. The anecdote resurfaced after Sinha, along with his wife Poonam Sinha, visited Hema Malini at her Mumbai residence to check on Dharmendra’s health following his discharge from Breach Candy Hospital last week. Their reunion stirred nostalgia among fans, reminding many of the close bond shared between the two legendary actors.
Speaking about his early career, Shatrughan recalled feeling extremely anxious before filming his first-ever dance number, Shor Mach Gaya Shor. Appearing alongside Dharmendra on an old episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, the Kalicharan star said he was overwhelmed by stage fright as the shoot attracted a massive public crowd. “There were thousands watching. I had never danced in front of an audience before and didn’t know what to do. I went to Dharmendra and told him, ‘Please tell me how to do this. I’m too nervous. How did you manage your own song Rafta Rafta?’” he recounted.
Sinha said Dharmendra’s response instantly lightened the atmosphere and dissolved his fears. “He told me, ‘Just do what I did.’ So I asked, ‘What did you do?’ and he smiled and said, ‘Just drink a little.’” The moment, which left the audience in splits, also reflected the camaraderie and affection between the two stars. Shatrughan added that the respect Dharmendra had earned through his warmth, humility, and professionalism was unmatched in the industry.

The two veteran actors have shared screen space in several popular films, including Zalzala, Jeena Nahi Doonga, Loha, and Aag Hi Aag. Over the years, they have maintained a close friendship, both professionally and personally. Recently, Sinha’s social media post featuring Hema Malini and his wife further showed the enduring connection between their families. “Along with my ‘bestest half’ Poonam, went to meet our dear family friend Hema Malini. We inquired about our elder brother Dharmendra’s health, and our prayers are with them all,” his post on X (formerly Twitter) read.
Dharmendra, 89, had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on October 31 and was discharged on November 12. His physician, Dr. Pratit Samdani, confirmed that the actor is now recovering at home under medical supervision. The veteran star, often hailed as one of Indian cinema’s most charming and genuine personalities, continues to receive an outpouring of love and well-wishes from fans and colleagues across the country.
