Actor Saif Ali Khan has praised Shah Rukh Khan’s approach as a film producer, revealing that the superstar prefers to stay away from film sets and give directors complete creative freedom. Saif made the remarks during the trailer launch event of the upcoming Netflix film Kartavya, which is being produced under Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.
Speaking about his long professional association with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif said he has always admired the actor-producer for both his personality and work ethic. The two actors have previously collaborated in films like Kal Ho Naa Ho and also shared hosting duties at several award ceremonies over the years. Kartavya now brings them together again, this time in an actor-producer partnership.
Saif revealed that Shah Rukh was minimally involved during the production process and trusted director Pulkit to shape the film independently. According to Saif, Shah Rukh believes directors should have the freedom to execute their vision without feeling pressured by a producer’s constant presence on set. He added that such an approach creates a healthier creative environment during filming.

“I didn't meet him on set because he's one of the producers who believes that a director is free to operate and make the film that he wants to make,” Saif said during the media interaction. He further explained that Shah Rukh understands how the presence of a major star-producer can sometimes become overwhelming for filmmakers and actors working on a project.
Saif also recalled that his involvement in the project began after Shah Rukh personally recommended the script to him. The actor said he later met director Pulkit, heard the narration, and agreed to join the film. After the shoot was completed, Shah Rukh reportedly watched the film and expressed satisfaction with the final outcome, calling it a “lovely film.”
Directed by Pulkit and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, Kartavya is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on May 15. The crime drama also features Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Manish Chaudhari, and Saurabh Dwivedi in key roles. The film is described as a character-driven investigative drama exploring themes of justice, morality, and consequence.
