Aditya Dhar's spy action thriller Dhurandhar, released on December 5, 2025, has emerged as a major box office success, garnering widespread critical acclaim and commercial triumph. The ensemble cast, led by Ranveer Singh, has received appreciation across the board, but Akshaye Khanna's intense portrayal of the gangster Rehman Dakait has particularly captivated audiences and dominated online discussions.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, R Madhavan, who essays the role of Ajay Sanyal, addressed speculation from netizens suggesting he might feel overshadowed by the immense attention directed toward Khanna. Madhavan firmly dismissed any such notions, expressing genuine joy and support for his co-star's recognition in the film.
Madhavan lavished praise on Akshaye Khanna, describing him as an exceptionally talented and grounded performer who shuns the limelight. He noted that Khanna could easily capitalize on the buzz with numerous media appearances but instead chooses to relish the privacy of his new home, embracing the quiet life he has long preferred.

Reflecting on public attention, Madhavan admitted to considering himself somewhat of an underdog in that regard, yet acknowledged that Khanna operates on an entirely different plane, remaining indifferent to both acclaim and setbacks. Madhavan emphasized the absence of any envy, stating that his involvement in Dhurandhar alone fills him with immense pride.
He further highlighted that neither Khanna nor director Aditya Dhar shows interest in aggressively promoting or monetizing the film's success, underscoring their focus on the craft over fleeting publicity. The film also features Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and others in pivotal roles.
