Actor Rachel Shelley reunited with Bollywood star Aamir Khan as the critically acclaimed film Lagaan celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Indian Film Festival London. The special event, organised by Aamir’s production company, marked the silver jubilee of the 2001 historical sports drama and brought together members of the film’s team to celebrate its enduring legacy.
Rachel shared a series of pictures from the celebration on social media, featuring moments with Aamir and highlights from the event. One image showed Aamir addressing the gathering, while other photographs captured the two actors smiling together. Sharing the post, Rachel expressed gratitude to Aamir Productions and the festival organisers for the celebration, adding that the occasion was a memorable tribute to the film.
This was not the first time Rachel reflected on Lagaan’s 25-year journey. Earlier, she shared a video message remembering her experience working on the film and spoke about how the memories of the project continue to remain special. She described the journey as feeling both recent and distant, highlighting the lasting impact the film has had on her personal and professional life.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir, Lagaan was released in 2001 and became one of India’s most celebrated films. Set in 1893 during British rule, the story follows villagers who challenge colonial authorities to a cricket match to avoid heavy taxation. Aamir played Bhuvan, while Rachel portrayed Elizabeth Russell, the British officer’s sister who helps villagers learn cricket and prepare for the historic match.
The film achieved international recognition, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, and remains regarded as a landmark in Indian cinema. The 25th anniversary celebrations in London highlighted the continued global appreciation for Lagaan and the lasting connection it has built with audiences worldwide.
