The Tamil film Karuppu, starring Suriya alongside Trisha Krishnan, has delivered a strong opening at the global box office, crossing the ₹100 crore mark worldwide within just three days of its release. The film’s performance has been driven by a combination of robust domestic collections and strong overseas earnings, despite reported release-related disruptions.
The film opened its theatrical run on Friday with an estimated ₹15.50 crore net collection in India. It then witnessed a sharp surge in audience turnout on Saturday, registering growth of around 56 per cent and earning approximately ₹24.15 crore net. On Sunday, the upward trend continued, with collections crossing the ₹28 crore mark. This consistent weekend growth pushed the domestic net total to around ₹68 crore, indicating strong word-of-mouth traction and sustained audience interest.
In terms of gross domestic earnings, Karuppu is estimated to have collected approximately ₹78.75 crore over its first three days. Trade analysts note that such a weekend trajectory is typically considered a strong indicator for long-term box office stability, provided the film maintains reasonable hold during weekday screenings. The initial momentum suggests that the film has managed to overcome early external challenges and convert audience curiosity into footfalls.

Overseas markets have played a crucial role in boosting the film’s global numbers. According to industry estimates, Karuppu has earned over $4.5 million internationally within its opening weekend. The film’s overseas performance has been attributed largely to Suriya’s established fan base in key international territories, including the Middle East, North America, and parts of Southeast Asia. These markets have historically contributed significantly to his films’ global totals, and Karuppu appears to be following a similar pattern.
With combined domestic and international revenues, the film’s worldwide box office collection has reached approximately ₹120 crore within just three days. This milestone places Karuppu among the faster-earning Tamil films in recent years, particularly in terms of crossing the ₹100 crore benchmark in such a short span. Industry observers have noted that the opening figures reflect strong pre-release anticipation and effective market penetration across multiple regions.
The weekend performance also positions the film ahead of several recent releases in terms of early global earnings, though analysts caution that sustained success will depend heavily on weekday performance trends. Monday collections are often seen as a critical indicator of audience retention, especially after a high-opening weekend.
Despite facing reported challenges around its release schedule and initial show cancellations in some regions, Karuppu has maintained strong commercial momentum. Exhibitors have pointed to steady occupancy in major urban centres, while multiplex chains have reported consistent turnout for evening and night shows during the weekend.
Looking ahead, trade experts believe the film’s trajectory over its first week will be decisive in determining its overall lifetime run. If Karuppu manages to avoid a steep drop in weekday collections, it could potentially double its opening weekend figures over the next phase of its theatrical run. For now, the film’s early performance signals a solid box office comeback for its lead star and reinforces his continued market strength both in India and abroad.
