Actor Varun Dhawan has set the internet abuzz with the first intense glimpse of his character from the upcoming war drama Border 2. The film, positioned as a spiritual sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 classic Border, pays tribute to the valor and patriotism of Indian soldiers. The makers unveiled Varun’s first look on Wednesday, promising an action-packed cinematic spectacle set against the backdrop of the Kargil War.
The poster released by T-Series Films presents Varun Dhawan in a fierce battlefield setting, embodying the role of an Indian Army officer. Covered in dust and determination, he stands tall with his uniform smeared in grit and ammunition slung across his chest. The poster’s caption, which translates to “The border is his duty, and India is his love,” perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the film. Varun, too, shared the look on his social media, revealing that he will portray PVC awardee Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya, a hero who symbolizes courage and sacrifice.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 boasts a star-studded cast featuring Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Medha Rana, Mona Singh, and Sonam Bajwa. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta under the banners of T-Series and JP Films. With this cast and creative lineup, the project aims to blend nostalgia from the original Border with contemporary storytelling and cinematic scale, capturing the emotional and physical struggles of India’s bravest.

While JP Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border told the story of the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Border 2 is expected to focus on the 1999 Kargil conflict — a war defined by determination, high-altitude battles, and extraordinary bravery. The new film is set to offer a fresh perspective on one of India’s most defining military victories while rekindling the spirit of patriotism that made its predecessor a timeless classic.
Beyond Border 2, Varun Dhawan is also gearing up for a lighter venture with his father, director David Dhawan, in their upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, releasing on June 5, 2026. Co-starring Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, the romantic comedy draws inspiration from the iconic track of the same name from Biwi No. 1. The film promises a fun-filled narrative about love, rejection, and divine intervention, showcasing Varun in a completely different light before his patriotic turn in Border 2 hits theatres on January 23, 2026.
