Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt walked out of jail after spending 71 days in custody in connection with an alleged ₹30 crore fraud case. The relief came after the Supreme Court of India granted bail to Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt. Speaking to the media outside the prison, Bhatt said he remained confident that the truth would prevail. He expressed faith in the country’s legal system.
Bhatt had been arrested by the Rajasthan Police in December in Mumbai and lodged in Udaipur jail. Reflecting on his time behind bars, the filmmaker struck a philosophical tone. He said a fellow inmate spoke to him about the “soil of Mewar” and its belief that truth cannot be defeated. Bhatt added that he was leaving jail with renewed strength. He maintained that justice would ultimately be served.
Drawing a religious parallel, Bhatt said he spent time “where Lord Krishna was born,” referring to the deity’s birth in prison according to Hindu belief. Calling the experience transformative, he said he was emerging “twice as good” as before. Bhatt described the episode as the beginning of a new battle in his life. Despite the case, he reiterated full faith in India’s law-and-order system.

The case stems from an FIR filed in Udaipur in November 2025 by Dr Ajay Murdia of Indira IVF. The complaint alleged that Bhatt and his wife committed fraud linked to a film production deal. According to the FIR, the complainant paid money and signed a contract for four films that were never delivered. The couple has been accused of misappropriating more than ₹30 crore through false assurances.
Police have said their investigation pointed to alleged financial irregularities tied to the project. The matter remains under legal scrutiny even as the couple is now out on bail. Bhatt, however, has maintained his innocence and confidence in the judicial process. Further proceedings in the case are expected in the coming weeks.
