Actor Saif Ali Khan has shared insights into how he and his wife, Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, are raising their sons, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan, with an emphasis on inclusivity, interfaith understanding, and openness toward different religious beliefs. He made the comments while speaking at the We Women’s London Edition event, where he discussed parenting, personal beliefs, and the role of early upbringing in shaping a child’s worldview.

Saif said that conversations around religion are a regular part of his interaction with his children, but he prefers to keep them simple, inclusive, and rooted in universal values. He explained that he often tells his sons that there is one God, though He is known by many different names across various religions. According to Saif, this perspective helps children understand that faith traditions may differ in practice, but they often share a common moral foundation.

The actor further elaborated that he does not identify as a deeply religious person himself, but his outlook has been shaped significantly by his upbringing. He credited his mother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, for instilling in him a broad and tolerant approach to spirituality. Saif said he has carried those lessons forward in his own parenting, encouraging his children to focus on compassion, kindness, and forgiveness rather than strict religious boundaries.

Reflecting on his childhood, Saif spoke about growing up in an environment where he was exposed to multiple religious and cultural influences. He recalled spending time in Christian institutions and attending schools where daily routines began with chapel prayers. He said this early exposure to diverse traditions helped him develop a comfort with different faith practices from a young age.

He also noted that in his school environment, students were encouraged to participate in prayers from various religions and take part in celebrations across different festivals. Saif mentioned that events such as Christmas and Diwali were both observed with equal enthusiasm, which allowed him to experience religious diversity in a natural and integrated way. He suggested that such exposure played an important role in shaping his belief in coexistence and mutual respect.

Saif emphasised that his approach to raising Taimur and Jehangir is guided by these experiences. He believes that teaching children about multiple faiths in a non-hierarchical way helps them develop a balanced perspective on religion. Rather than focusing on differences, he encourages an understanding of shared values such as love, empathy, and respect for others.
