Actor Sai Pallavi has addressed the backlash she received after being trolled for her Hindi-speaking skills during a recent promotional event for the film Ek Din, saying she felt she may have been “miscast” in the project. Her comments come weeks after a musical evening in Mumbai drew criticism on social media over her on-stage interaction with the audience.

The controversy began after the makers of Ek Din hosted a live event titled Ek Din ki Mehfil, where Sai Pallavi appeared alongside co-star Junaid Khan. Following her speech in Hindi, clips from the event went viral online, with sections of social media users criticising her fluency and questioning her suitability for certain Hindi film roles, including her casting in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana: Part I.

Speaking in a video shared on the Aamir Khan Talkies YouTube channel, Sai Pallavi reflected on her experience during a conversation with Junaid Khan. She said she felt she may not have been the right fit for the role, adding that a different performer with more ease in such a setting might have been better suited. She also noted that her intention in choosing the project was not driven by scale, but by a desire to take on a lighter role.

The actress explained that she had recently completed several emotionally intense films and was looking for a project that felt more relaxed and less demanding. She described Ek Din as appealing because of its simple, romantic tone, comparing its mood to the film Before Sunrise, which she said influenced her expectations when she signed on.

Despite her doubts, Junaid Khan reportedly reassured her during the conversation, saying she was well-suited for the role. The discussion highlighted differing perspectives on her performance, even as public debate continued online regarding her casting and language abilities.

Ek Din, directed by Sunil Pandey and backed by Aamir Khan Productions, is a romantic drama adapted from a Thai film. It follows the story of a young man who falls in love with a colleague but struggles to express his feelings, until an unexpected twist allows him a single day to act on his emotions.
