BTS leader RM has suffered an ankle injury just two days before the group’s highly anticipated “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG” concert at Gwanghwamun Square, raising questions about his full participation, but BigHit Music has clarified that he will still appear on stage with limited movement. The historic open‑air comeback show, part of the rollout for the new album “Arirang,” is scheduled for March 21 in central Seoul and is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans and be livestreamed globally.
According to BigHit Music, RM injured his ankle during a performance rehearsal on March 19 and was taken to a hospital for a detailed examination. Doctors diagnosed the injury as a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear and a talus contusion, which together involve ligament damage and inflammation around the ankle joint. Medical staff have advised him to wear a cast and to restrict movement for at least two weeks to prioritise recovery.
Despite the severity of the injury, RM has expressed a strong determination to take part in the comeback stage, telling the agency he wants to perform for fans after such a long wait. However, in line with medical recommendations, BigHit has announced that his choreography and on‑stage activity will be “partially limited,” with the group and production team adjusting his parts to reduce strain on the ankle while still allowing him to join the performance.

The company has emphasised that the health and safety of its artists come first, and it is working closely with RM to ensure he receives full medical support and a swift recovery. The agency apologised to fans, known as ARMY, for any disappointment this may cause, stressing that the rest of BTS is continuing intensive preparations so the show remains impactful and memorable even with the leader’s modified role.
For fans, the news has sparked a mix of concern and support, with many ARMY members circulating messages asking RM to focus on healing and promising to cheer for him regardless of how much he performs. The “Arirang” comeback concert is meant to symbolise BTS’s return to large‑scale, public stages after a period of solo and smaller projects, and the agency has vowed that, despite the injury setback, the event will still be executed as a heartfelt and polished live experience.
