Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon is set to take on one of the most challenging roles of her career by portraying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, Heeraben Modi, in the upcoming biopic Maa Vande. Directed by Kranthi Kumar Ch, the film will star Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan in the lead role as Narendra Modi. The upcoming political biopic will depict the Prime Minister’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming the leader of the world’s largest democracy, with the narrative deeply exploring the bond he shared with his mother.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Raveena was deeply moved by the script and found herself drawn to Heeraben’s story of quiet strength and resilience. A source close to the project shared that Maa Vande primarily focuses on the emotional and spiritual influence Heeraben had on her son’s life. “The film chronicles the sacrifices, resilience, and selfless contributions she made to shape his journey. Raveena was fascinated by this aspect and immediately wanted to be part of it,” the source said.
The actress is expected to undergo an extensive physical transformation for the role, which will mark a major departure from her previous glamorous screen appearances. The film is said to feature large-scale production detailing, with advanced visual effects designed to recreate key moments from Modi’s childhood and early life. Composer Ravi Basrur, known for his work on KGF, will handle the film’s music, while National Award winner Sreekar Prasad will oversee editing. The project is being produced by Veer Reddy under the Silver Cast Creations banner.

In an official statement, the filmmakers said Maa Vande would be based on true incidents and follow Narendra Modi’s life story through his mother’s eyes. The biopic will highlight Heeraben’s role in shaping his philosophy, discipline, and values — qualities that continued to guide him in public life. The film is positioned as more than just a political narrative, presenting an intimate mother-son relationship rooted in love, sacrifice, and faith.
Industry insiders describe the project as one of the most ambitious biographical dramas in recent years, aiming to balance historical accuracy with emotional storytelling. With Raveena Tandon in a never-before-seen role and Unni Mukundan depicting Modi’s evolution from childhood to leadership, Maa Vande is expected to spark widespread interest. The film’s official release date has not yet been announced, but production is expected to begin later this year amid high anticipation.
