Veteran actor Rajinikanth on Thursday strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it “barbaric and merciless.” He expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, describing him as a “fighter” who will restore peace and stability in the region.
Speaking at the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in New Delhi, the 74-year-old superstar praised Modi’s resolve in the face of adversity. “Many told me this event might get postponed due to unnecessary criticism as it focuses on entertainment. But I was confident it would happen because I have confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modiji,” Rajinikanth said.
The WAVES summit, launched to spotlight India’s growing media and entertainment sector, brings together leaders from cinema, OTT, gaming, digital media, and emerging technologies. It aims to position India as a $50 billion entertainment economy by 2029.

“PM Modi is a fighter. He will meet any challenge. He has proven it over the last decade,” said Rajinikanth, adding that the prime minister will handle the Kashmir situation “bravely and gracefully.”
He further noted, “I believe he will bring peace to Kashmir and glory to our country. I’m extremely happy to be part of the WAVES moment. My heartiest congratulations to the central government.”
The summit opened just days after a terror attack in Pahalgam’s higher reaches claimed the lives of 26 people, including tourists. The tragedy cast a shadow over the event, but Rajinikanth’s remarks offered both condemnation and hope.
WAVES is expected to become a key platform to showcase India's creative economy and technological capabilities across entertainment sectors, from traditional cinema to AI and immersive media.
