Actor and performer Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday in connection with the controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar,” offering a formal apology and stating that she had no intention of offending anyone. The hearing was held amid ongoing scrutiny over the Hindi version of the track, which had sparked public backlash over its alleged explicit content.
Speaking to the media after the proceedings, Nora said she found herself unintentionally caught in the controversy but accepted responsibility as a public figure. “It was just a situation that I was put in, and there was no intention to offend anybody. But of course, I have to be responsible as an artiste. I definitely apologise, we have done everything in writing. They have been so kind and helpful,” she said following her appearance before the commission.
Nora also announced an initiative to support social welfare, stating that she plans to sponsor the education of several orphaned girls. She emphasised the importance of giving back to society and said the decision was made in response to the controversy. “It’s really important for us to give back to society. So, I decided that we should sponsor a few orphan girls, their education,” she said.

The controversy began after the Hindi version of “Sarke Chunar,” released on YouTube on March 15, drew criticism from a section of viewers over its lyrics and presentation. The song is part of the Kannada film “KD The Devil,” which has been dubbed into multiple languages, including Hindi. Following the backlash, the Hindi version was removed from YouTube, though it continues to circulate on other platforms.
Nora had earlier distanced herself from the Hindi adaptation, stating that she had only shot the Kannada version and was not involved in approving its use in Hindi. The song’s lyricist, singer, and director have also issued apologies in response to the criticism. The matter drew attention from the National Commission for Women, which summoned both Nora and actor Sanjay Dutt for questioning earlier in the week.
The NCW proceedings are part of a broader review of the case as authorities examine concerns raised over content sensitivity and public impact. Following her appearance, Nora reiterated her apology and said she would cooperate fully with any further inquiry.
