The makers of the upcoming film Ramayana unveiled details about the ambitious project at a grand promotional event titled ‘Pratham Sankalp’ held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Ahead of the film’s global trailer launch at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, the event brought together the cast and creative team, offering audiences a closer look at the film’s visual scale and its portrayal of some of the most iconic characters from Indian mythology.
Director Nitesh Tiwari revealed that Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi were his first choices to portray Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. Explaining his casting decision, Nitesh said that “an artist’s eyes never lie” and that he saw the qualities of Lord Rama in Ranbir’s eyes and Goddess Sita in Sai’s expression. He said he looked for truth and sincerity in the actors while selecting them for roles that carry deep cultural and emotional significance.
Ranbir, who attended the event wearing sunglasses due to an eye infection, spoke about taking on the role of Lord Rama. The actor said that portraying the revered character felt like a role that “chose” him. He also expressed his admiration for veteran actor Arun Govil, whose portrayal of Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s television series Ramayan remains widely remembered. Ranbir said he grew up seeing Govil’s portrayal and hoped to bring the same sincerity and dignity to his own performance.

Sai described playing Goddess Sita as one of the most challenging and prestigious opportunities of her career. She thanked the filmmakers for trusting her with the responsibility of portraying such an important character and said that bringing a divine figure to life on screen requires immense dedication. The event also featured appearances by Yash, who plays Ravana, and Sunny Deol, who portrays Hanuman, with both actors sharing insights into their roles and the larger vision of the film.
Producer Namit Malhotra highlighted the years of planning and effort behind the project, saying that thousands of people have contributed to bringing Ramayana to life. He said the film’s focus is not only on scale but also on preserving the timeless values and legacy of the epic with honesty and authenticity. The evening also featured a special musical performance by Rishabh Rikhiram Sharma, who is composing music for the film alongside Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. The makers announced that the worldwide trailer premiere will take place on July 24, presenting Ramayana as one of the biggest cinematic adaptations of India’s cultural heritage.
