Nawazuddin Siddiqui has resumed shooting for the highly anticipated horror sequel Tumbbad 2 in Satara, Maharashtra, after returning from a US stage tour with his daughter Shora Siddiqui. The actor had completed the film’s first shooting schedule earlier this year and has now begun work on the next phase of production. The sequel is expected to continue the dark folklore and mythology established in the original Tumbbad, which centred on the cursed deity Hastar and a family’s dangerous pursuit of supernatural wealth.
Siddiqui recently travelled across the United States for performances of his stage play Naqaab, in which he appeared alongside his daughter. Following the completion of the tour, the actor returned to India and joined the Tumbbad 2 team for its latest schedule. The first schedule of the sequel was reportedly completed in June, with production now moving ahead with additional portions being filmed in Maharashtra.
The sequel has also attracted significant attention because of its expanded cast. Alia Bhatt has reportedly joined Tumbbad 2 in a pivotal role, adding another major name to the project. Producer and actor Sohum Shah, who was closely associated with the original film, welcomed Bhatt to the Tumbbad universe after her casting was announced in July 2026. Details about her character and her role in the story have not yet been revealed.

Tumbbad 2 is being directed by Adesh Prasad and is expected to build on the atmospheric horror, mythology and folklore that made the original film distinctive. The story is expected to remain connected to the supernatural world surrounding Hastar, although specific plot details about the sequel are being kept under wraps. The return of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and the addition of Alia Bhatt have further increased anticipation surrounding the project.
The original Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah, developed a strong following for its distinctive combination of Indian mythology, folk horror and visual storytelling. Its depiction of greed, family legacy and the consequences of seeking supernatural riches helped establish it as one of the more distinctive Indian horror films of recent years. The sequel is therefore being closely watched by audiences interested in how the filmmakers expand the mythology introduced in the first instalment.
Tumbbad 2 is currently scheduled to reach theatres in December 2027. With filming now underway in Satara following the completion of the first schedule, production is progressing toward the planned release. The involvement of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sohum Shah and Alia Bhatt has made the sequel one of the more anticipated upcoming Hindi horror projects.
