Renowned actress Madhuri Dixit recently addressed the enduring issue of pay disparity in Bollywood, acknowledging that the fight for fair compensation for women remains an uphill battle across all professions, including cinema. Speaking during the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2025 event in Jaipur, Dixit reflected on her own experiences, stating that women often must repeatedly prove their worth to earn equality in pay.
Madhuri pointed out that pay inequality is a universal struggle, not unique to the film industry, underscoring that women’s contributions need greater recognition and fair remuneration. “Everybody is struggling for that, and everybody is trying to state the fact that women should be paid more—not more than the actor, but at least somewhere where it’s balanced,” she remarked. Her candid insights resonate within a broader conversation led by several prominent Bollywood actresses who have raised their voices on this matter.
Her remarks echo those of contemporaries such as Priyanka Chopra, who has highlighted deeper cultural challenges behind the pay gap, including male insecurity about women’s success in a traditionally male-dominated space. Chopra pointedly noted how societal roles and expectations fuel resistance to women’s rising prominence and leadership in their careers.
