The producer of Jana Nayagan, the much-anticipated Tamil film starring Thalapathy Vijay, has described the ongoing legal battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as "extremely difficult" and emotional. In his first public statement since the controversy escalated, Venkat K. Narayana of KVN Productions issued a video message explaining the certification delays that led to the indefinite postponement of the film's release. Originally scheduled for January 9, 2026, to coincide with the Pongal festival, Jana Nayagan—directed by H. Vinoth and billed as Vijay's farewell film before entering full-time politics—was submitted to the CBFC in December 2025 and initially cleared for a U/A 16+ certificate after suggested modifications.
The issues began when the CBFC, following a complaint, referred the film to a Revising Committee despite prior acceptance of the Examining Committee's recommendations. This prompted the producers to approach the Madras High Court. On January 9, a single judge directed the CBFC to issue the certificate forthwith, but hours later, a division bench granted an interim stay on the order following an urgent appeal by the CBFC. The matter has now been adjourned to January 21, effectively ruling out a Pongal release and leaving fans, distributors, and the industry in uncertainty.
Narayana emphasized that the developments were "beyond our control" and apologized to audiences for the disappointment. He highlighted the immense effort invested in the project and stated, "We firmly believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell he has earned through decades of love from his fans." The producer detailed the timeline, noting submissions on December 18 and 29, 2025, and the subsequent hurdles, underscoring the frustration amid what many view as a critical moment in Vijay's career transition to leading the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party ahead of Tamil Nadu elections.

The film features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol and music by Anirudh Ravichander. The certification row has sparked discussions on censorship practices and potential political undertones, with the producers reportedly planning further legal steps. As the case awaits resolution, Vijay's fans continue to express support for what is poised to be his cinematic swansong.
