As Rangeela marks its 30th anniversary, Bollywood icon Urmila Matondkar took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute, calling the 1995 film “not just a film, but a feeling.”
The Ram Gopal Varma-directed romantic drama, starring Matondkar, Aamir Khan, and Jackie Shroff, remains a cultural milestone, celebrated for its vibrant storytelling and unforgettable music. Released on September 8, 1995, Rangeela captivated audiences with its tale of Mili, a spirited young woman chasing her dream of becoming an actress, only to find herself in a love triangle with her childhood friend Munna (Khan) and a famous actor, Raj Kamal (Shroff).
The film’s box-office success made it the fourth highest-grossing film of that year in India, cementing its legacy. Matondkar’s heartfelt post highlighted the film’s enduring magic, describing it as a “grand celebration of life” woven with joy, ambition, and love. She reflected on how each scene evokes “childlike smiles” and transports viewers to a world of innocence, while the iconic songs—Tanha Tanha, Hai Rama, Kya Kare, Mangta Hai Kya, and Pyaar Yeh Jaane Kaisa—composed by A.R. Rahman, embody the Navrasa (nine emotions) of Indian art.
