A body representing film and television directors has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking his “personal intervention” in the investigation into the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai. The Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) expressed shock and concern over the incident, saying it has unsettled the wider entertainment industry.
The letter comes a day after unidentified assailants fired four rounds outside Shetty’s multi-story home in the Juhu area early Sunday morning. No injuries were reported in the incident, but a glass pane on the balcony of the residence was damaged. Police and forensic teams were deployed at the site soon after the firing to secure the premises and collect evidence.
In its statement to the chief minister, the IFTDA said the incident had created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity within the film fraternity. The association described Shetty as one of the most respected filmmakers in the industry and urged the state government to ensure his safety and that of his family. It appealed to the chief minister to personally look into the matter so that confidence within the entertainment sector is not shaken.

The directors’ body also said it had faith in the Mumbai Police and expected swift and strict action against those responsible. The association stated that it was confident law enforcement agencies would identify and book the culprits at the earliest, while ensuring adequate protection for Shetty and his family.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police said five individuals were detained in Pune later on Sunday in connection with the case and were handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch for further questioning. Security around the filmmaker’s residence has been tightened as investigations continue.
According to police sources, a social media post later claimed responsibility for the firing in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, though authorities have not officially confirmed the claim. Officials said the probe is ongoing and all angles are being examined to establish the motive behind the attack.
