Prime Video premiered “Zero Se Restart,” a gripping documentary chronicling the making of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s acclaimed film “12th Fail,” on Wednesday. Directed and edited by Jaskunwar Singh Kohli and produced by Vinod Chopra Films, the documentary is now streaming in India and over 200 countries, offering an intimate look at the creative and emotional rollercoaster behind the 2023 box office hit starring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr.
Based on Anurag Pathak’s novel about IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, “12th Fail” resonated widely. “Zero Se Restart,” culled from 18,000 minutes of footage shot over three years, reveals the cast and crew’s challenges, triumphs, and relentless dedication. Chopra described it as “a celebration of courage embedded in all artistic processes,” reflecting on his initial uncertainty and the grit that fueled the project.
Kohli called it a “treat” for aspiring filmmakers, offering lessons from Chopra’s “hilarious and brilliant” approach. Massey, revisiting the journey, said, “It brought back the fear, fire, and faith,” highlighting Chopra’s leadership in navigating unpredictable shoots and initial rejections. The documentary inspires dream-chasers, showcasing the power of restarting with resilience.
