A 24-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants at a café in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area late Friday night, police said. The incident has raised concerns over public safety in the locality, prompting an intensive investigation by law enforcement agencies.
According to police, the firing was reported at around 10:28 pm at a café located in the Welcome area. A Police Control Room (PCR) call alerted authorities about the shooting, following which a police team rushed to the spot and found a young man lying critically injured.
The victim was identified as Faizan, also known as Fazzi, a 24-year-old resident of Welcome. He was immediately taken to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital for medical treatment. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, a senior police officer confirmed.

A crime team and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the scene and began collecting physical and scientific evidence. Police said the exact number of assailants and the sequence of events leading up to the firing are yet to be determined. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the shooting took place either inside the café or in its immediate vicinity.
A case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Arms Act, at the Welcome police station. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the café and nearby areas to identify the attackers and trace their movements before and after the incident.
Police teams have been deployed to conduct raids at suspected locations, and local informers have been activated to gather leads. Statements from café staff and others present at the time are being recorded as part of the investigation. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and further inquiry is underway, police said.
