Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor announced on Thursday that pre-production for “Brahmastra 2” is slated to begin later this year, following the release of director Ayan Mukerji’s next project, “War 2.”
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Kapoor shared that Mukerji, who helmed the 2022 hit “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva,” is currently focused on “War 2,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, set for release on August 14, 2025. Once completed, Mukerji will shift gears to the much-awaited sequel.
“‘Brahmastra 2’ is Ayan’s long-cherished dream, encompassing the entire story he’s envisioned,” Kapoor said. “After ‘War 2,’ he’ll dive into pre-production. It’s definitely happening, and some exciting announcements are on the way.”
The first film, featuring Ranbir as Shiva—a DJ discovering his mystical powers—and Alia Bhatt as his love interest Isha, laid the foundation for an ambitious fantasy trilogy. Produced by Star Studios and Dharma Productions, it boasted a star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Nagarjuna.
In 2023, Mukerji revealed plans for the franchise’s next chapters, targeting theatrical releases in 2026 and 2027. While details remain under wraps, Kapoor’s update reaffirms the project’s momentum, promising fans a continuation of the epic saga that blends mythology with modern spectacle.
As Mukerji juggles his directorial slate, anticipation builds for “Brahmastra 2” to expand on Shiva’s journey and the universe introduced in the visually stunning original.
