Amitabh Bachchan has broken records as India’s top taxpayer for the financial year 2024-25, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan. With total earnings reaching Rs 350 crore, Bachchan faced a tax liability of Rs 120 crore, marking a significant increase from the Rs 71 crore he paid last year—a 69% rise in his tax contribution.
His income stems from diverse sources, including films, brand endorsements, and his long-standing role as the host of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati.' Sources revealed to Pinkvilla that Bachchan's earnings from these ventures have solidified his status as one of India's highest individual earners in the entertainment industry.
“From doing some of the biggest feature films of Indian Cinema to being the top pick for most of the brands – Amitabh Bachchan is an actor in demand even at the age of 82. He is also the most loved host on television with Kaun Banega Crorepati. The income from all these sources amounts to Rs 350 crore, which is among the highest in the capacity of an individual in the film fraternity,” revealed a source to the outlet.
Known for his financial discipline, Bachchan has consistently fulfilled his tax obligations. This year, he made a final advance tax installment of Rs 52.5 crore on March 15, 2025. His achievement places him at the forefront of India’s highest tax-paying celebrities, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s previous record of Rs 92 crore last year by a significant margin.
At 81, Amitabh Bachchan remains a dominant force in Indian cinema, recently appearing in 'Vettaiyan' alongside Rajinikanth and 'Kalki 2898 AD' with Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone. Currently hosting 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 16,' Bachchan has confirmed his return for the next season, underscoring his enduring popularity and influence in the industry.
Other notable names on the list include Tamil actor-politician Vijay with Rs 80 crore and Salman Khan, who paid Rs 75 crore in taxes.
