Aakhri Sawal, starring Sanjay Dutt, witnessed a sharp decline at the box office on its first Monday, raising concerns about the film’s theatrical run after a modest opening weekend. According to trade estimates, the political psychological drama earned just Rs 21 lakh net in India on Day 4, registering a steep 73.8 per cent drop from its Sunday collection of Rs 80 lakh.
The film, which also features Namashi Chakraborty, Amit Sadh, Sameera Reddy, Neetu Chandra, Tridha Choudhury and Mrinal Kulkarni, reportedly collected the latest figure across 1,216 shows nationwide. With the Monday earnings included, the film’s total India net collection has reached Rs 2.16 crore, while its India gross collection stands at approximately Rs 2.58 crore.
Despite the presence of Sanjay in the lead role, the film has struggled to build sustained audience momentum since its release. Industry observers note that the weak weekday performance indicates fading audience interest after limited weekend growth. The crime drama had opened to a subdued response, collecting around Rs 40 lakh on its first day at the domestic box office.

The film’s release had also faced complications ahead of its theatrical debut. Originally scheduled to release on May 8, 2026, the movie was delayed by a week due to issues related to certification from the Central Board of Film Certification. The delay, coupled with relatively low promotional visibility, is believed to have impacted the film’s opening traction among moviegoers.
Internationally, the film has earned an estimated Rs 40 lakh so far, taking its total worldwide gross collection to approximately Rs 2.98 crore. While the weekend collections offered some hope for improvement, the sharp Monday decline has intensified concerns over the film’s long-term commercial prospects and its ability to sustain screens in the coming days.
Meanwhile, critical reception to the film has remained mixed. A review by The Free Press Journal awarded the film 2.5 stars, noting that Sanjay attempted a restrained performance while balancing the film’s ideological themes and dramatic narrative. The review also observed that fans may miss the actor’s trademark screen style and mannerisms, adding that the film’s limited publicity may have further affected its box office performance.
