Tesla has officially begun delivering the first units of its new Model Y L electric SUV to customers in India, marking another milestone in the company's expansion strategy in the country’s premium electric vehicle market. The launch introduces a larger and more family-oriented version of the popular Model Y, aimed at buyers seeking additional passenger space while retaining the performance and technology associated with the Tesla brand.
The Model Y L distinguishes itself from the standard Model Y through its extended dimensions and three-row seating configuration. Designed to accommodate up to six passengers, the SUV features a stretched wheelbase that enhances cabin space and rear-seat comfort. Tesla has positioned the vehicle as a practical option for families looking for a premium electric SUV with greater seating capacity.
Measuring 4,969 mm in length, the Model Y L features a wheelbase of 3,040 mm, which is 150 mm longer than the standard model. The additional space allows for second-row captain seats and a powered third-row seating arrangement. Other comfort-focused features include ventilated and heated seats, powered seat adjustments, rear air-conditioning vents, and a cabin layout designed to improve passenger convenience during long journeys.

Despite its focus on practicality, the Model Y L retains strong performance credentials. The SUV is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 514 bhp and 590 Nm of torque. Tesla claims the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.0 seconds. The company also highlights its impressive driving range of up to 681 kilometres on a single charge under WLTP testing standards.
Fast-charging capability remains one of the vehicle’s key selling points. According to Tesla, favourable charging conditions can add up to 288 kilometres of range in approximately 15 minutes. The SUV also incorporates the brand’s signature technology-driven approach, including a large 16-inch touchscreen interface, connected vehicle features, a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, premium audio, and integrated streaming services.
The Tesla Model Y L has been launched in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 61.99 lakh. Safety features include nine airbags, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, lane departure avoidance, and multiple advanced driver assistance systems. Tesla is also offering financing plans with down payments starting at Rs 6.5 lakh and monthly instalments from around Rs 49,990, subject to approval, as it seeks to strengthen its foothold in India’s growing electric vehicle segment.
