Mahindra & Mahindra has reported that it sold more passenger vehicles in FY26 than the combined total of Toyota Motor Corporation and Kia Corporation in the Indian market, underscoring its strong domestic performance driven by sustained demand for utility vehicles.
The company’s sales momentum was led by the continued popularity of its SUV lineup, with the Mahindra Scorpio emerging as the best-selling model during the financial year. The Scorpio’s consistent demand across urban and rural markets played a key role in bolstering Mahindra’s overall volumes.
Industry data indicates that Mahindra benefited from a favourable product mix, focusing heavily on SUVs—a segment that has seen robust growth in India. The company’s ability to maintain supply amid high demand, along with strong brand recall, helped it outpace competitors in the same category.

In comparison, Toyota and Kia, while maintaining steady sales through models across segments, did not match Mahindra’s cumulative numbers when combined. Analysts point out that Mahindra’s sharper focus on the SUV segment and newer launches contributed to its relative outperformance.
Market observers note that the Indian passenger vehicle market continues to tilt toward SUVs, with consumers preferring larger vehicles offering higher ground clearance and feature-rich variants. Mahindra has capitalised on this trend effectively, strengthening its position in the segment.
The company’s FY26 performance highlights intensifying competition in India’s auto sector, where domestic and global manufacturers are vying for market share. Going forward, sustaining growth will likely depend on new product launches, supply chain efficiency, and evolving consumer preferences.
