Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLC Electric in India on November 4, with the new electric SUV set to be locally assembled at the company's Chakan facility in Pune. Bookings for the model are expected to open in the first week of October. The India-spec version will initially be available in the GLC 400 4MATIC configuration, bringing a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, a claimed range of up to 715km and a range of technology and comfort features. The model will join Mercedes-Benz India's growing electric vehicle portfolio as the company expands its locally assembled EV lineup.
The GLC 400 4MATIC will use a 94kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack paired with two electric motors producing a combined 360kW, equivalent to 489bhp, and 800Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 210kmph. Its claimed WLTP range is up to 715km, although the technical specifications provide a range band of 568km to 715km depending on configuration and operating conditions. The combination of all-wheel drive and the high-output dual-motor setup gives the electric SUV a performance-focused character.
The GLC Electric is based on an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW. Mercedes-Benz claims that the battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 22 minutes under suitable conditions, while a 10-minute charging session can add up to 305km of WLTP range. AC charging is supported at up to 11kW as standard, with an optional 22kW system also available. The SUV measures 4,845mm in length, 1,913mm in width and 1,644mm in height, with a 2,972mm wheelbase that is 84mm longer than the combustion-engined GLC.

The longer wheelbase is claimed to provide an additional 47mm of rear legroom, while the SUV offers 570 litres of boot space that can expand to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded. There is also a 128-litre front luggage compartment, although the electric GLC has a kerb weight of 2,535kg. The model can tow up to 2.4 tonnes and has a permitted drawbar load of 100kg. Among its chassis features are AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent suspension control and an optional rear-wheel-steering system capable of turning the rear wheels by up to 4.5 degrees, reducing the turning circle from 12.1 metres to 11.2 metres.
Inside, the GLC Electric gets a 99.3cm MBUX Hyperscreen combining the digital instrument cluster, central infotainment display and passenger screen. The fourth-generation MBUX system incorporates artificial intelligence technologies from Microsoft and Google, while Mercedes-Benz's Multi Agent Approach is designed to support more complex conversations with the virtual assistant. The SUV also features a SKY CONTROL panoramic roof with switchable glass, along with ambient lighting capable of displaying 162 illuminated stars through the roof.
The GLC Electric will also feature Mercedes-Benz's MB.DRIVE driver-assistance system, which uses data from up to 10 external cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Depending on specification and market, the system can provide functions such as adaptive cruise control, steering assistance, lane-change assistance and automated parking. Other equipment includes DIGITAL LIGHT with micro-LED technology, TERRAIN mode, a transparent-bonnet function, KEYLESS-GO and multiple active and passive safety systems. With local assembly, a 489bhp powertrain and a claimed 715km WLTP range, the GLC Electric is set to enter India's luxury electric SUV market when it arrives in November.
