Austrian Motorcycle Manufacturer KTM has issued a global recall for its 2024-2026 390 Duke and 2025-2026 390 Adventure R, Adventure X, Enduro R, and SMC R models over a potential engine-stalling issue at low RPM or during deceleration. The affected motorcycles, all powered by the latest 399 cc single-cylinder LC4c engine, were manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant near Pune under the KTM-Bajaj partnership. While the recall covers units sold in international markets, KTM India and Bajaj have confirmed that motorcycles sold domestically are not part of this campaign.
The company stated that internal testing revealed rare instances where the engine could unexpectedly stall in slow-speed city riding or technical off-road situations, potentially increasing the risk of a tip-over during manoeuvres such as U-turns. Only a limited number of real-world incidents have been recorded, but KTM is taking proactive measures to eliminate any safety concern.
The fix is a simple over-the-air-style software update to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). The revised map is designed to prevent low-RPM stalls while simultaneously improving low-end throttle response and overall engine smoothness. No hardware changes or part replacements are required. Overseas owners will receive direct communication from KTM and can have the free update performed at any authorised service centre.

Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen, and other 401 models sharing the same engine platform are also included in the international update programme. KTM has emphasised that Indian-market 390 series motorcycles use a different calibration tailored to local conditions and fuel quality, which is why they are exempt from this particular recall.
The 399 cc platform, launched globally in late 2023, has been widely praised for its refinement and performance. This recall is the first major action on the new-generation engine and underscores KTM’s commitment to addressing even minor issues promptly in export markets. Indian owners experiencing similar symptoms are advised to contact their nearest authorised KTM service centre for diagnosis and potential case-by-case resolution.
