A widespread internet outage appears to have hit Airtel users across India, with complaints flooding social media platforms and outage tracker websites since Monday. According to data from Downdetector, reports of connectivity issues began surfacing on Monday morning and continued throughout the next 24 hours, affecting both Airtel’s mobile data and broadband services.
Users from across the country — including major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad — reported that Airtel’s internet services went down intermittently or failed entirely. The outage appears to be nationwide, as reflected by Downdetector’s heat map showing clusters of complaints from all corners of the country.
Many customers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express frustration over the persistent downtime, with several noting that not only web browsing but also online payments and messaging applications like WhatsApp and Telegram were being disrupted. Some users shared screenshots of failed transactions and streaming interruptions, urging the company to issue an explanation.

As of now, Airtel has not released any official statement addressing the cause or expected resolution of the issue. The lack of communication has intensified concerns among users, especially given the duration of the reported disruptions. However, most reports confirm that voice calls and standard SMS services continue to function normally, indicating that the problem is restricted to internet connectivity.
Airtel is one of India’s largest telecom operators, with millions of mobile and broadband subscribers nationwide. Internet outages of this scale can significantly affect businesses, digital payments, and remote work. Industry experts note that while temporary disruptions are not uncommon, a prolonged outage spanning both mobile and fiber networks points to a possible technical fault in the company’s core systems or data routing infrastructure.
