French footballer Tahirys Dos Santos has signed his first professional contract with Ligue 1 club Metz, marking a remarkable comeback after surviving a deadly bar fire in Switzerland earlier this year.The 19-year-old defender’s rise to professional football comes just months after he was severely injured in a catastrophic blaze at a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day. The incident left dozens dead and more than 100 injured, and Dos Santos himself suffered serious burns while escaping the inferno.
According to reports, the young footballer endured a long recovery period in hospital, during which he underwent treatment for burn injuries before slowly returning to training. Despite the physical and emotional toll, he resumed football activities with Metz’s reserve side earlier this month, signalling a gradual return to competitive sport.
Metz confirmed the one-year professional contract shortly after his return, describing his journey as an example of resilience and determination. Dos Santos has been part of the club’s youth system since the age of eight and is considered one of its long-term development prospects.
