Shubman Gill’s surprising omission from India’s T20 World Cup squad has drawn widespread attention, but the Gujarat Titans (GT) have urged calm, describing it as a temporary setback in the young cricketer’s career. The T20 World Cup is set to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7, and Gill, the former vice-captain of India’s T20I side, was the most high-profile absentee when the selectors announced the 15-member squad.
GT Chief Operating Officer Colonel Arvinder Singh addressed the situation on Thursday, calling Gill’s exclusion “one of the hiccups that occur in every elite sportsperson’s career.” Singh emphasized that the India Test and ODI skipper had accepted the selectors’ decision with maturity and would respond by continuing to perform at the highest level.
“These are minor hiccups that do happen in any sportsman’s life. He respects the decision of the selectors,” Singh said in a virtual interaction during the launch of the third edition of the Junior Titans program. He expressed confidence that Gill would return stronger and even better as a cricketer, citing his recent performances in two games as proof of his resilience.

Shubman Gill has been one of India’s most consistent batsmen across formats. In 36 T20I matches, he has accumulated 869 runs, showcasing the technical skill and temperament that earned him a leadership role in India’s limited-overs setup. His form in domestic and IPL cricket has also been a key factor in Gujarat Titans’ competitive performance in the Indian Premier League.
While fans and cricket pundits speculated about the reasons behind his omission, Singh assured that Gill had respected the selectors’ call and would continue to focus on his game. “Knowing him, he’ll come back even a better cricketer than he was going forward,” Singh added.
The news has sparked discussions across social media and sports forums, highlighting the high expectations placed on young talents like Gill. As India gears up for the T20 World Cup, all eyes will be on how the vice-captain channels this professional setback into future performances, both for Gujarat Titans and the national team.
