Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood is reportedly considering stepping down from leadership duties after his side suffered a heavy 2–0 Test series whitewash against Bangladesh, marking one of the team’s most disappointing recent performances in the longest format. The latest defeat came in the second Test in Sylhet, where Pakistan were beaten by 78 runs as Bangladesh sealed their fourth consecutive Test win over them.
The result confirmed a second straight series whitewash against Pakistan, repeating a similar feat Bangladesh had achieved earlier in 2024.The loss has intensified scrutiny over Masood’s captaincy record since taking charge in 2023. Under his leadership, Pakistan have struggled significantly in Test cricket, losing 12 of the 16 matches he has captained. This places him among the least successful Test captains in the country’s history in terms of win–loss ratio.
According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to review the leadership structure following the series defeat. Media speculation suggests that Masood may resign from the role, although no official confirmation has been issued by the board or the player at this stage. In his post-match remarks, Masood left the decision regarding his future to the PCB, stating that he intended to discuss the team’s performance and direction with officials. He said that leadership decisions ultimately rest with the governing body and that his focus remained on improving Pakistan’s Test performance.

Masood also issued an apology to fans after the defeat, acknowledging the team’s poor results and expressing disappointment. He added that individual performances were secondary to team success, underlining the extent of frustration within the camp following the series loss. The series outcome has further deepened concerns about Pakistan’s red-ball form, with calls for structural changes expected to grow ahead of future Test assignments as the team looks to rebuild confidence and consistency in the format.
