Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will don new colors in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season after completing a high-profile trade to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The switch, confirmed ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, has already set social media abuzz following LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s playful message welcoming the star pacer.
Shami, who was bought by SRH for Rs 10 crore ahead of the 2025 IPL season, moves to Lucknow at the same fee, according to the official trade announcement. Known for his pace and ability to deliver under pressure, the senior bowler brings with him a wealth of experience from stints with several franchises including Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and SRH. Across 119 IPL matches, he has taken 133 wickets at an average of 28.18 with best figures of 4/11.
Welcoming Shami with LSG’s signature spirit, Goenka took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and shared a photo with the caption, “Muskuraiye, aap Lucknow mein hain... welcome to the Super Giants family.” The post quickly went viral, with fans celebrating the team’s strengthened bowling lineup and Shami’s potential comeback season.

Before joining SRH, Shami was instrumental in Gujarat Titans’ rise—claiming the Purple Cap during their 2023 runners-up run with 28 wickets in 17 matches. Although an injury kept him out of the 2024 season, his previous performances, including a 20-wicket haul during GT’s title triumph, established him as one of the most consistent pacers in the league. His 2025 season with SRH, however, was underwhelming, managing only six wickets at an average of 56.16.
Internationally, Shami last represented India in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, taking nine wickets in five matches and helping India lift the trophy. Currently representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, he has continued his strong domestic form with 15 wickets in three matches. A successful IPL season with LSG could reignite his chances of returning to the Indian team setup, making his 2026 campaign one to watch.
