India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has reportedly informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he wishes to step down from his role, although a final decision is yet to be taken. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the former Netherlands all-rounder has expressed his desire to leave the Indian men's team setup, with approval from both the BCCI and head coach Gautam Gambhir still pending. The development comes amid increased scrutiny of the Indian team management following defeats to Ireland and England in recent white-ball assignments.
While speculation has grown over changes within the coaching staff, the report said Ten Doeschate's decision is driven by personal reasons rather than dissatisfaction with his position. According to the report, Ten Doeschate has already communicated his intentions to the BCCI. However, any departure will require the consent of the board and Gambhir, who has been leading India's coaching setup since taking charge in 2024. If the request is approved, the third and final ODI against England at Lord's on July 19 could be Ten Doeschate's final assignment with the Indian team.
The report added that discussions over his exit are expected to take place amicably, with both sides aiming for a mutually agreed resolution. Ten Doeschate joined India's support staff two years ago after Gambhir was appointed head coach. Since then, he has been part of the coaching group responsible for preparing the team across formats, bringing experience gained from an accomplished playing career with the Netherlands and various coaching assignments in franchise cricket. The report further stated that his initial contract with the BCCI recently came to an end, with its tenure concluding around July 12-14.

As India's white-ball tour of England continues, Ten Doeschate is believed to be seeking an early release after the conclusion of the ODI series. Neither the BCCI nor Gautam Gambhir has officially commented on the report. There has also been no public statement from Ten Doeschate regarding his future with the Indian team. The reported development comes at a time when India's coaching staff has been under the spotlight following recent performances. Losses in the T20I series and the ongoing ODI tour have prompted discussions over team strategy, selection and the direction of the support staff.
Ten Doeschate, regarded as one of the Netherlands' finest all-rounders during his playing career, transitioned into coaching after retirement and built a reputation through roles in domestic and franchise cricket before joining the Indian setup. His experience has been viewed as a valuable addition to the team's backroom staff, particularly in white-ball cricket. If his resignation is accepted, the BCCI will need to decide whether to appoint a replacement immediately or redistribute his responsibilities within the existing coaching group. For now, however, his future remains uncertain, with the final decision resting with the board and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
