Nitish Kumar Reddy’s comeback from injury received a significant boost after the all-rounder produced a three-wicket haul in India’s second T20I against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. Reddy returned figures of 3/24 to help India restrict Afghanistan to 159/8 before the hosts chased down the target with seven wickets in hand. He was named Player of the Match for his performance.
The 22-year-old said the performance gave him the confidence he needed after an underwhelming outing in the opening match of the series. Speaking in a BCCI video, Reddy acknowledged that returning from injury requires patience and self-belief, adding that he felt much happier with his contribution in the second game. The all-rounder said he hoped to carry that confidence into the matches ahead as he continues his return to full rhythm.
Reddy also spoke about the support he has received from the Indian team management since breaking into the national side. He said the opportunities and trust shown by the management have helped him concentrate on improving his game rather than worrying about his position in the team. For an all-rounder returning from an injury layoff, that backing has been particularly important as he works to rebuild consistency with both bat and ball.

The recovery process, however, has also presented a mental challenge. Reddy recalled spending extended periods at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, where he had access to facilities and training as part of his rehabilitation. Despite the advantages of the setup, he said the long periods away from regular life could be mentally tiring. He credited conversations with close friends and family, along with occasional trips home, with helping him manage that fatigue during the recovery period.
Reddy also acknowledged that managing workload is especially important because of his role as an all-rounder. He said injuries can be difficult to deal with, but maintaining a positive mindset is essential during such setbacks. His three-wicket performance in Delhi has now provided a timely confidence boost as India prepare for the final T20I of the series at the same venue on September 17, with India already holding an unassailable 2-0 lead.
