Bangladesh cricket team captain Litton Das has declined to comment on the growing controversy surrounding his country’s participation in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, saying it would not be safe for him to speak on the matter. With less than two weeks remaining before the tournament, Bangladesh’s involvement remains uncertain amid an unresolved stand-off between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Speaking after a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match on Tuesday, Litton was asked whether the conditions and pitches in the domestic tournament were helping the team prepare for the World Cup. His response reflected the broader uncertainty engulfing Bangladesh cricket. “Are you sure we are going to play the World Cup? From my side, I am uncertain; everyone is uncertain. I think the whole of Bangladesh is uncertain at this moment,” Litton said, before declining to elaborate further.
The uncertainty stems from the BCB’s request to the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns. However, the ICC has so far shown reluctance to accept the proposal, with multiple discussions failing to produce a resolution. The governing body has reportedly asked the BCB to clarify its position by January 21.

Earlier, Bangladesh government sports advisor Asif Nazrul reiterated that the national team would not travel to India under any circumstances for the tournament. He warned that Bangladesh would not accept what he described as unreasonable pressure or conditions imposed by cricket’s global body.
Nazrul also rejected speculation that Scotland could replace Bangladesh if the standoff continues. He pointed to past precedents where tournament venues were changed after teams expressed unwillingness to travel, arguing that Bangladesh’s request was based on logical and security-related grounds.
If the deadlock persists, Bangladesh risks missing the 20-team tournament altogether, potentially opening the door for another team to step in based on rankings. For now, uncertainty continues to overshadow Bangladesh’s World Cup preparations, with players and officials alike awaiting a final decision from the ICC.
