India’s rising badminton stars Tanvi Sharma and Vennala Kalagotla set the court ablaze, clinching bronze medals at the Badminton Asia Junior Individual Championships on Saturday. In a historic first, two Indian women’s singles players stood on the podium in the same edition, marking a golden moment for Indian badminton.
Vennala Kalagotla battled fiercely against China’s Liu Si Ya, falling 15-21, 18-21 in a thrilling 37-minute clash. Trailing 15-20 in the second game, the young Indian saved three match points, igniting hopes of a comeback, but a critical error handed Liu the victory.
Meanwhile, second-seeded Tanvi Sharma faced China’s eighth seed Yin Yi Qing, losing 13-21, 14-21 in 35 minutes. Despite a blazing 6-1 lead in the second game, Tanvi couldn’t hold off Yin’s relentless comeback, who leveled the score at 8-8 before surging to triumph.
