The final match of the India versus Australia five-match T20I series was abandoned due to persistent rain and lightning at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, but India had already secured the series 2-1 after winning the third and fourth matches. Only 4.5 overs could be played in the fifth T20I before the weather brought the game to a premature end.
India’s opening batsmen, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, gave the team a blazing start, putting together a 50-run partnership without losing a wicket. Sharma, who was dropped twice by Australia during the brief innings, created history by becoming the fastest batter in terms of balls faced to reach 1,000 T20I runs, achieving the milestone in just 528 balls. Gill also impressed with his aggressive strokeplay, hitting four boundaries in a single over.
Lightning and heavy rain forced play to be suspended for over two hours, after which the match was called off with no result declared. Despite the abandonment, India’s consistent performances throughout the series, including strong victories in the mid-games, ensured the coveted series win.
